Social media manager for restaurants in Albania: what they do, what it costs, what to expect

In Albania a restaurant is chosen on Instagram before it is searched on Google. Whoever keeps the profile empty or with dark photos loses tables every evening.

Greoli Web Agency, Vlorë

Why restaurants need one

A tourist in Sarandë opens Instagram, searches “restaurant Sarandë”, looks at profiles, picks the one with the most convincing dishes and writes a DM for a table. A Tirana local on Saturday does the same for Blloku. Google comes later. The restaurant profile is the first menu read: if the last photo is a year old, the restaurant looks closed.

It is not just visibility: it is the booking channel. Most restaurants in Albania get bookings from Instagram DMs and WhatsApp, not from the website.

What they do every week

Plan the posting calendar (dishes of the day, offers, events, staff, behind the scenes). Shoot or organise photo and video shoots. Write the texts in the customers’ languages. Post stories every day. Reply to DMs and comments within the hour. Run ads with a small budget. Follow reviews on Google and TripAdvisor. Measure followers, engagement, messages and bookings. Report every month.

The content that works

Short videos of dishes being prepared: fish on the grill, byrek coming out of the oven, a cocktail being made. Dish photos in natural light, not flash. The staff: the chef, the waiters, the owner. Happy customers (with permission). The terrace view. Daily offers. Proportion: 50% food, 30% people and place, 20% offers and practical information.

Stories and DMs

Stories every day: the daily menu, the fresh dish, free tables for tonight, the weather on the terrace, tonight’s music. It is the content the customer sees at decision time (6-8 pm). DMs are bookings: reply within 15 minutes at peak hours, with ready texts in Albanian, Italian and English, and a system to note the booking.

Ads

A small, focused budget: boost the best video to people within 10 km of the restaurant, or to tourists in town in season. Goal: messages and clicks to WhatsApp, not likes. Ads for events (live music night, holiday menu). For foreign tourists: their language, their hours.

Reviews

Google and TripAdvisor for foreign tourists, Google for locals. The social media manager follows new reviews, replies in the customer’s language, organises the review request at the end of the meal (QR code on the bill) and uses the best reviews in stories. A restaurant with 4.6 and 500 reviews fills tables without discounts.

What it costs

A fixed monthly fee based on volume: posts per week, stories, shoots, languages, ads. For a mid-sized restaurant, less than a waiter’s salary. The ad budget goes separately, to Meta. A contract with a minimum of three months: less is not enough to see results.

How to measure it

Messages and bookings from Instagram and WhatsApp (with a simple note at the till: “how did you find us?”). Real followers in town. Engagement. New reviews per month. Revenue from advertised events. If after three months bookings from social do not grow, something is wrong: the content, the replies, or the restaurant.

In-house or agency

An in-house person (the keen waiter, the owner’s son) knows the restaurant but often lacks time and method. An agency has the method but must come to the restaurant for shoots. The best formula: the agency does the calendar, monthly shoots, ads and report; someone in-house does stories and replies to DMs with ready texts. The cost is shared, the result grows.

The mistakes

Flash photos, dishes shot from above with a dirty table, offer-only posts, DMs unanswered until the next day, bought followers, a profile left empty in winter, texts only in Albanian in a tourist town, no measurement. Each of these sends the customer to the restaurant next door.

A typical month for a fish restaurant in Vlorë

Week 1: photo and video shoot of seasonal dishes, staff and terrace; monthly calendar; texts in three languages. Weeks 1-4: three posts a week (dishes, people, offers), stories every day at 6 pm with the fresh dish and free tables, DM replies within 15 minutes with ready texts. Week 2: ad of the grilled fish video to tourists in Vlorë, 10 km, Italian and English. Week 4: report: 340 messages, 120 bookings noted from social, 45 new Google reviews, 60 real followers. Cost: monthly fee plus a modest ad budget. Revenue from social bookings: many times that.

What the restaurant must provide

One contact person who replies within the day. Admin access to Instagram, Facebook and the Google profile, in the restaurant’s name. An updated menu and prices. The events calendar a month ahead. Two hours a month for the shoot, with dishes prepared. Customer permission for photos. Without these, even the best social media manager posts stock photos and blames the restaurant.

Season and off-season

In tourist towns social works differently by month. May-September: stories every day, four posts a week, ads to tourists, three languages. October-April: two posts a week for locals and weekends, events (New Year, Valentine’s, Easter), the winter menu, the summer archive to keep the profile alive. Whoever switches the profile off in October restarts from zero in May: Instagram forgets.
