Social media for shops and shopping centres in Albania: from the window to WhatsApp
In Albania a large share of shop sales starts from a story: “new arrival”, “how much?” in a DM, “I will set it aside” and the customer comes in or gets it delivered. Whoever has not understood this loses half their customers.

How Albanians buy from shops online
They see the product in a story or post, ask price and size by DM or WhatsApp, reserve it, come to the shop or get it delivered with cash on delivery. Few buy by card from a website. Social media and WhatsApp are the real Albanian e-commerce. The shop that replies fast sells; the one saying “come to the shop” loses the customer.
The Instagram catalogue
The profile as a catalogue: a photo of every product with the price in the text, sizes, colours, availability. Highlights by category (dresses, shoes, bags, offers, how to order). Instagram Shopping if you can enable it. A visible price avoids a hundred “how much?” DMs and makes the customer decide.
Stories: new arrivals
Every day: “new arrival” with the product worn or in hand, the price, “write to reserve it”. Stories at peak hours (midday and evening). Polls (“white or black?”), questions, countdowns for offers. Stories are the daily sales channel; posts build the profile.
Video and TikTok
Try-ons, unboxing of arrivals, “outfit for 5,000 lek”, “3 ways to wear it”, the shop assistant showing arrivals. For clothing shops TikTok is the channel that brings young people; for furniture and electronics, video of the product in use. Three videos a week, shot in the shop.
WhatsApp orders
WhatsApp Business with a catalogue, quick replies (sizes, delivery, payment), labels for orders (new, confirmed, shipped). A dedicated number, not the owner’s personal phone. Replies within 15 minutes during opening hours. Confirmation with a product photo and the total. It is the simplest and most used order system in Albania.
Delivery
In Tirana same-day delivery by courier; in the districts within 24-48 hours with cash on delivery. Delivery and return conditions written in highlights and in every confirmation. Shops delivering across Albania and Kosovo have a ten-times bigger market.
For over-35s and for the diaspora buying gifts for family in Albania. The page with the catalogue, Marketplace for products, buying groups (carefully). Ads to women aged 35-55 in Tirana for clothing and cosmetics; to the diaspora for gifts before holidays.
Ads
A new-arrival video or a product carousel with prices, to the right audience (city, age, gender, interests), objective messages. A small budget concentrated on new arrivals and holidays. Remarketing to those who viewed the profile. The cost per message in Albania is very low: a small shop reaches thousands of potential customers with a few euros.
Holidays and season
New Year, Valentine’s, 8 March, Easter, Bajram, the diaspora’s return in August, school in September, Black Friday, Christmas. The shop calendar follows these dates with arrivals, offers and ads two weeks ahead. The shop planning New Year in November sells; the one posting the offer on 30 December does not.
Shopping centres
Shops inside shopping centres have a double audience: the centre’s (tags, reposts from the centre’s profile, events) and their own. The shopping centre’s profile must repost the shops, announce events and offers, show hours and parking. Shop-centre collaboration doubles reach at no cost.
Example: a clothing shop in Tirana
Before: random posts, price “in DM”, lost orders, 1,500 followers. The work: a priced catalogue on Instagram, a daily story with arrivals, WhatsApp Business with a dedicated number and quick replies, three TikToks a week with the shop assistant, a small ad to women aged 20-40 in Tirana, delivery across Albania. After three months: 8,000 followers, 25 orders a day from WhatsApp, 40% from outside Tirana.
The mistakes
Price “in DM”. Flash photos in a messy shop. DMs unanswered until the next day. The owner’s personal WhatsApp. No daily story. Offers only. Not delivering outside the city. Not planning holidays. Bought followers. Not measuring orders from social.
Product photos without a studio
Natural light by the window or outside in the shade, a clean background (white wall, cardboard), the product ironed or cleaned, three photos: full, detail, worn or in use. A good phone, no flash, no filters that change colours (the customer returns it if the colour does not match). Ten products in half an hour. For the Instagram catalogue, the same background for all: the profile looks tidy and professional even without a studio.
Managing growing orders
When orders exceed ten a day, WhatsApp alone is not enough: a sheet or a simple order tool (customer, product, address, payment, status), WhatsApp Business labels, a person responsible for deliveries, a courier with an agreement. When they exceed thirty, a simple order page or an e-commerce with cash on delivery makes sense. Growing with orders lost in chat is the fastest way to lose the customers you won.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need e-commerce?
For most Albanian shops no: Instagram + WhatsApp + delivery are enough. E-commerce when orders exceed 30 a day.
Should I show prices?
Yes: it avoids hundreds of DMs and increases sales.
How many stories a day?
Three to five, at peak hours.
Do I need TikTok?
For clothing, cosmetics and shoes yes; for the rest Instagram and Facebook are enough.
