Digital marketing for tourism in Albania: markets, channels and the 2026 season calendar
Albanian tourism grows every year, and most tourism businesses still wait for tourists to come from Booking. Whoever works online from November chooses their own clients; whoever starts in June takes what is left.

The markets of Albanian tourism
Italy: ferries from Puglia, flights, families and couples, Italian searches, June-September season. Poland: charters and low-cost flights, families and young people, Polish and English searches, May-September season. Germany and Austria: car and flights, couples and independent travellers, German. Kosovo and North Macedonia: car, families, August. UK and Scandinavia: flights, English. Locals: weekends. Each market has its own calendar.
When they search
Italians: January-March for summer, April-May for long weekends, August-September for September. Poles: February-April. Germans: March-May. Kosovars: June-July for August. British: January and May. A tourism business advertising in June reaches only last-minute deciders: often with a lower budget.
Channels by market
Italians: Google (in Italian), Instagram, Facebook for over-40s, TripAdvisor for reviews. Poles: Google, Facebook (heavily used), travel groups. Germans: Google, comparison sites, reviews. Kosovars: Facebook and Instagram, WhatsApp, word of mouth. Young people from all countries: TikTok and Instagram. The site must be in the languages of the chosen markets.
The base: site and Google
Before ads: a three-language site with a booking engine or form, a curated Google profile with reviews, professional photos, visible prices. Without this base, ads send clients to Booking. The base is built in November-December.
The calendar: November-December
A new or updated site, last summer’s photos selected, early-booking offers set, the Google profile updated, an email to past guests with the offer. Italian Google Ads campaigns prepared for January. The year’s budget split by market and month.
The calendar: January-March
Italian Google Ads on summer searches (“hotel Saranda”, “vacanze Albania”), Meta to Italians aged 35-65 interested in Albania, an Italian blog on the area, a second email. From February, Polish and English. From March, German. Early booking with a discount until 31 March. It is the period with the highest ad return.
The calendar: April-June
New photos in May. Campaigns continue with a reduced budget for foreign markets, increase for Kosovars from June. Instagram every day with the destination. Creators invited in May-June. June offers for Italians (lower prices, good weather). Checking the Google profile and reviews.
The calendar: July-September
Stories every day, DMs in three languages, reviews requested at every check-out, contacts collected. Ads to tourists already in Albania for excursions, restaurants, boats. A “September” campaign for Italians and Germans from June. Season photos and video for next year.
The calendar: October
Thanks to guests, the season analysis (who came from where, what each channel cost), offers for winter groups and events, next year’s plan. Businesses doing the analysis in October start November with the right budget for the right market.
Budgets
Split by market according to last year’s results: if Italians brought 40% of guests with 25% of the budget, increase there. Concentrated in the search months, not the travel months. Channels: Google Ads in winter, Meta in spring, organic Instagram all year, email almost free. A mid-sized tourism business invests in marketing about a few weeks of revenue to fill the whole season.
Excursions, boats, agencies
Their clients are already in Albania: ads to “people travelling in” Sarandë or Vlorë, in their language, during the season; a Google profile for “boat tour Sarande”, “excursion Butrint”; partnerships with hotels (flyer, QR code, commission); TikTok and Instagram with excursion videos. Booking via WhatsApp or a simple form.
Measurement
Per market: enquiries, direct bookings, cost per booking, occupancy, average price. Per channel: what it brought and what it cost. In October, one table shows where to invest next year. Albanian tourism businesses that measure reduce portal commissions every year; those that do not pay the same commission forever.
The mistakes
Starting in June. Advertising in one language for everyone. A site without prices. Not collecting contacts. Switching profiles off in October. Not measuring by market. Not using the season’s photos for next year. Depending 100% on Booking.
Example: tourist rental apartments in Sarandë
Ten apartments, before: 100% from Booking and Airbnb, high commissions, zero contacts. The work: a three-language site with calendar and direct booking, a Google profile, Instagram with the area, an Italian Google campaign January-March, Meta to Poles in February, an email to past guests in January with a 15% discount. Budget concentrated in winter. After one season: 40% direct bookings, 85% occupancy June-September, saved commissions exceeding the cost of all the marketing. In the second year, the Polish campaign grew because it brought the lowest cost per booking.
